nothing really

i wanted to have a four-to-the-floor theme for the next Prime Cuts & Schmaltz Liquor mix and i’ve been setting aside songs and what not. then i realized that it would be bush league to have a mix of dancey rock and not mix it together like a real dance mix. i supposed there’s way to do that on the computer these days but i’m not too up on these things, so i’m going to just use my turntable and my laptop as a pretend 4-track and pitch the record up or down live. so the four-to-the-floor prime cuts is on hold for now while i do some thinking. i’ll throw something else together in the next week or so.

i stumbled upon this tv ad for Captain Beefheart’s Lick My Decals Off, Baby on youtube that was banned for some stupid reason. i think it’s cool and fun. that album rules way harder than Trout Mask Replica. i also think that Tom Waits is a biter

Native Instruments’ Traktor is pretty handy for that sort of thing, especially if you’ve got a decent midi knob/slider controller to work the interface in a more tactile manner than a keyboard and mouse (ewww). The last time I had a DJ gig I switched to a laptop+traktor/audio interface/midi controller rig from the more classic approach, and I can’t say I’d ever go back. Then again, I’m no scratch DJ, so…

TW does cite Captain Beefheart as the reason for the change in his music in the early eighties.

yeah i know. i’m thinking specifically of one TW song. i never realized before but “Shore Leave” off of swordfishtrombone sounds very much like a straight and watered down version of “Woe is Uh Me Bop” the song in that video

b – thanks for that software suggestion, but i’m too simple for that method.

Well, if you decide you want to play around with the software, let me know, I can hook you up with an “evaluation” copy.
