put this in yr snackhole

kiss the cook, son.

new thurston = instant classic

didn’t expect to like the new thurston moore album trees outside the academy so much but i heard it playing in amoeba by accident (when he was signing) and i love it. it’s pretty accessible but complex and densely layered. i think people who are afraid of sonic youth will like it and sonic youth fans will buy anything sy-related, it’s a win-win situation.

The Guess Who

i forgot about these dudes and now i think it would be fun to cover their 60s era songs and play out once or twice. and i want the bass. which is weird because i’ve never wanted to play bass in my rock fantasy daydreams. i just think it would be really fun with these songs. I need to find some abled folks who are down with The Guess Who… but i guess i need to borrow a bass first, ha ha ha. it’s probably too obvious a band for music snobs, but i don’t care. Their shit is catchy and fun. if you’ve seen Superbad, that song michael cera’s character nervously sang in front of the scary coked up dudes is one of theirs. note that i used the word “fun” a total of 4 times in this post.

“if you don’t want me”

“it’s my pride”

i love october

the red sox rocked the rockies 13-1 with so many clutch RBIs. it was frustrating. i felt bad for jeff francis who got shelled. blow outs are really no fun to watch for me, especially in a World Series. i would like to see someone pitch a perfect game in the WS though.

anyway, to kick off game 1, mark invited a bunch of folks over for a trashy college dinner, sloppy joes. i didn’t have the heart to tell him that i hate ketchup. yeah, i know. the terrorists win.

i laughed at kristy for having a manila folder of her upcoming europe trip on her

next level geeking out

i went over to young’s last night and we were bored so we took a picture of us taking a picture of the other…at the same time. wow, i just blew your mind didn’t i. on top of that, we sat around watching a tv show where other people got in shape. anyway, we realized our phone cameras had a panoramic stitch function and we wanted to test it out. click on the photos for full detail.

lathrop corn maze

later when darkness fell, young drove us kids to the lathrop dell’osso farm (thanks, dad!) so we could do the corn maze at night. this maze is over 35 acres big and it changes every year. this year it was a tractor of pumpkins:

they give you a map, but it’s so easy to lose your place. we walked in circles a few times cause everything looked the same. sometimes the only way we could distinguish the new paths from the repeated paths was based seeing a familiar piece of trash on the ground or recognizing a hanging corn ear that young had gnawed on out of desperation (this was only about 20 minutes in). i’m pretty certain now that young is the guy who would be the first to eat people in a stranded situation.

anyway, one of the rewarding things about the maze is making it to one of the four elevated “bridges” which act as towers overlooking the maze and made it easier to plan your next path. the whole thing took about an hour to complete and it was fun.

a view from an elevated bridge. the larger version of this is better.

clarion alley block party

during the day i went to the clarion alley block party to check out new murals this year and hopefully see some good bands. no luck on the latter but i only stayed for about 45 min. also, i remembered that i hadn’t been through clarion alley in a long time (not even on bike weirdly enough), so i really had no clue what was new. who cares, it was a beautiful day out.

drunken winnings

i won at bingo again last night and so did mah friend. we both picked a succulent plant for our prize. i got drunk and kept breaking open the bulbs that fell to the soil cause it smelled like freshly cut grass and I frickin’ love that scent. we left our table for a sec and when we came pack there was an abandoned tray full of cupcake cones on the table that smelled like they wanted to be eaten. so we helped ourselves.

after bingo this band with the unfortunate name of Battlehooch came on and they had this cap’n beefheart & magic band thing going on with the skronking and that je ne sais quoi off-kilter swagger. they were ridiculous and like 2 hippie looking jock rock dudes had no shirts on which made me really want to roll my eyes, but i lived with it because they were obviously having fun. there was also all this gear on stage, including a theremin, drums, bass, guitar, laptop, keyboards, LOTS of pedals and crap with knobs on em and a bunch of reeds. The dude who played the reed instruments looked like he could be one of the level bosses in that bad Bruce Lee movie Game of Death. At one point he was playing both the alto saxomophone and a clarinet AT THE SAME TIME. Although I heard some of their tracks online today and am not really feeling it, I have to say they had a lot of crazy energy on stage and I feel stupid for not bringing my camera.

Speaking of dudes with no shirts on…

….because I am feeling sentimental and I used to have the biggest crush on Shock G when I was 11-14ish. shock = underrated on the keys and easy on the eyes and i am not mad at that at all. hello oakland. seeing digital underground at kmel summer jam when i was a kid was one of my most memorable and fun concert experiences ever.

i finally got a decent phone

under the ice

damn. i had a really bad day yesterday. my dentist visit was painful and my face hurts today. and i’m trying to forget how about my weak insurance coverage and the $$$ i dropped.

anyway, i want to do this to my bike:

but i want a pink and brown color scheme. i bought a cannondale off my boss for $50 a few months ago but the frame is burgundy which is probably my least favorite color. i’m surprised that dude only used 25 ft of tape and it took him 15 hours total. my stomach hurts.

insect jewelry

i’m not feeling like typing too much. morning woke up, made a necklace out of this glow-in-the-dark resin insect keychain, met up with alexis at the sfmoma for the cornell exhibit (which was so very great), went to green apple books and bought lots o art books and then came home

re: these bearded dude heads - about 2 months ago, kristy pulled up to my house but couldn’t find parking, so i came down and sat in her car and noticed all these heads in the door compartment of her passenger door. i picked up a handful and said something like “uh wtf?” and she told me they were sitting on the dashboard when she bought the car. she told me i could have them. i’m gonna use them for a diorama. after this cornell retrospective i feel like i got ideas for like 3 dioramas and alexis is gonna hook me up with some cheap readymade shadow boxes. i’m very excited. i can’t remember the last time i made something i could hang on a wall.

omg omg omg!

thank goodness for the internet to tell me that there is a joseph cornell retrospective in my own neck of the woods. his shadowboxes and collage works are so lovely.

the SFMOMA is showing 200 works of his. i’m very very excited about this, and i need an inspiration boost for a diorama i plan to make as a belated belated b-day gift.

audrey (9:51:24 AM): that’s mean

a lot of stuff has grown on me lately by way of attrition, but no matter how many friends of mine ride for the red sox, i will never ever like them. ever. that whistle song by peter bjorn & john grew on me recently though. maybe because it was in my face like everyday for most of the year. the rest of the album i like alright but that whistling bugged me so much. then my friend tommy controller 7 did a great remix with the temptations’ “get ready” and now i’m ok with it. listen to this please. my friend played it out when i was ny.

check out controller 7’s blog my fist in your face.

hollllllllllllllllerween

oh shit, halloween is coming up which means it’s time to dust off the misfits and get lost in a corn maze. i’m not sure what’s going to happen costume-wise, but i think i want to be bacon sizzling in a pan.

i wish i could croon like glenn, but i’m not a dude.
