yay laughter.

i’m glad we have SF Sketchfest for giving me the opportunity to gorge on seeing some of my favorite comedians live. last night i saw jon benjamin and eugene mirman with bob odenkirk, michael showalter from the state (eh), and tim & eric and i laughed for days. i love jon benjamin. he calls into my favorite talk/comedy radio show on wfmu as odd characters sometimes alongside jon wurster and listening to those guys make my day, they’re so frickin’ funny. after zack rogue performed a few sulky poignant acoustic songs, benjamin said something about using that last song for a jerk-off mixtape he made and i cry-laughed so hard. it was fun to see his act in person and i have a new appreciation for his comedy partner eugene mirman. tim and eric showed a fake absolut vodka ad they made with zack galifinakis that ruled. i missed mike birbiglia’s set who i’ve mentioned here before cuz he was added last minute. :( i wished the stupid mezzanine allowed cameras.

Prime Cuts Schmaltz Liquor #3

Holy cow, it’s been a long time since i put one up. dude…HOLY COW. I have to call this episode that. I also decided that I’m not going to type up lame music adjectives describing what kind of music is on here because i always feel really stupid with all the music hyphenation i.e. post-punk, psych-rock, psych-folk, blah blahcetera. from now on i’m gonna be as cryptic as possible because if you heard past episodes and like em then you will trust me. no post-punk, psych-rock, garage-folk eyerolling music crit descriptors. if you must, this mix is strictly cow-rock. lordy, i swear sometimes the only motivation i have for these mixes is the fun i have when i put together the artwork. enjoy my primecuts cowcuts.

Episode #3: Holy Cow

file under: cow-rock, unrequited beef, sonic meat, religion
as per usual, you can subscribe on the left there and yes it is in the fancy m4a format which has track markers for your ipod for skipping and repeating and puts said track markers on cd when you burn in itunes. if that is too confusing, complain in the comments and i will upload a mp3 version. and yes i have posted that Clean song before, i just love it so.

schadenfreude

i recently starting using facebook only so i could play scrabble. anyway, one of my current games is with brian (my former roommate, fellow member of the Outdoorsy Adventure Club and super competitive friend). i lose so much at scrabble that i don’t/can’t care about my track record anymore, i’m deep in the ditches. but it’s extra fun to score big points off of brian cause he gets so mad. young realizes this too, and when he came over to watch project runway tonight, i told him it was my turn against brian on scrabble. he too likes getting brian mad competition wise, the pay off is too big and satisfying. so he looked at my letters and wrote down a million hypothetical combinations so i could get a word with the most points. i didn’t use any of them cause i know brian would accuse me of cheating, but i had to share. i’ve lost so many times during scrabble but there is a certain satisfaction when scoring big against brian because he gets comically angry/belligerent, totally jackie gleason style.

bloody hanson bro

finally got around to making that Slap Shot fan-art T i said i would a month or 2 back. it’s a little messed up since i used iron-on transfer but i’m gonna make a better one in the near future and hopefully find a tomboy nerd who can appreciate a hilarious & subversive dudestravagent violent hockey flick from the 70s, give it to her and make her day. excuse the mediocre pic, young took it.

phoney

i found out how to free the pics from my phone in a way that doesn’t take forever. lets get random

don’t watch me, watch tv

i thought i was strange for taking pictures of things that appear on my tv, but this person’s set takes it to the next level. some of these screen shots are familiar to me, but taken out of context with the kodak duaflex makes them seem far more mysterious and classic than they are.

bourne again

stupid young. i watched all of those jason bourne movies for the first time this past week and got really into it and what did he do? this:

just because in theory i think it’s cool to be able to get a eurothug in a chokehold while cussing him out in french/russian/german/italian or spanish, it does NOT mean i want to marry MOR matt damon.

SIKE! i’m happy.

classic rap album covers

speaking of ms paint, i found these a long time ago on the internet and i guess i never posted them here. they are bad but really good. i appreciate them. i think my favorite is the slick rick and the LONS one. the Mobb Deep one looks so laughably bad to me because Prodigy looks catatonic and Premier’s wonky eye in the “Moment of Truth” one cracks me up.

sorry to my friends who have seen these a million times

monday saturday night soul party

oh this pic is from a previous soul night not nye

i went to soul night on nye at the elbo which is normally on saturday and it was good times. i haven’t gone since july. i was kinda paranoid that it would be too crowded cause nye is amateur night and people who never go out feel obligated to go out on this night and drink more than they can handle and i hate witnessing drive-by public vomiting, fights on the sidewalk, and drunk driving. but my night turned out a lot more fun than i thought it could be. anyway, soul night here is great because everyone dances - including all the deejays, and they are fun to watch. besides all the great 60s soul 45s, i also think the crowd gets hype and dances because the dj is hyped. and this is not any self-conscious half-ass dancing either, lots of people seriously just spazz out on the dancefloor and aren’t afraid to look foolish. i can dork out and reenact moves from the blues brothers movie if i want to and no one would even notice. not that i would ever do something like that.

they gave out x-ray specs and stupid hats and favors. the crowd crouches down to the floor slow when the song starts to get quiet when paul paul orders them to get on the floor. then everyone jumps up with their arms in the air when the song gets loud again. it is that kind of atmosphere, check it out. i took a mess of pics last night and put together a slideshow because i think i need to start doing that when i have too many pictures.
