bingo winnings

my new old toy

this weekend i went down to the central valley aka the midwest of california to visit my dad cause he’s had some hardcore heartwork and can’t travel for awhile. also it was my lil brother’s prom night? that was surreal. he’s about 10 feet taller than i remember. my dad gave me a tiny leo pendant which is his sign. not really the kind of gal that is into astrology but i was pretty touched

when my camera battery died in big sur i started relying on my phone camera as backup. then i remembered the panoramic stitch function on my phone camera which was made for trips like this. click each image for the big picture

here are 3 funny pfeiffer beach pics from young’s camera

sorry i haven’t been updating as much as i used to. i used to blog from my old job during bored idle moments and hardly ever at home. not much of those opportunities now with my newish job, but at least i am content between the hours of 8 and 5 now thanks to good company (pun intended).
here’s more pics from the last couple of weeks. bay meadows, bingo night at the knockout and other neighborhood bars, roasted chicken and baseball on tv all day with pallies, handmade gifts from friends and me forced into making button rings after getting into a seinfeldian fight with another crafter on etsy, and me freaking out at a $4 gas sign before a long road trip.

young started working w/ felt again and me a letter a with a bunch of cutesy adornments.

“OMG I love Wii”

i went to soul night on nye at the elbo which is normally on saturday and it was good times. i haven’t gone since july. i was kinda paranoid that it would be too crowded cause nye is amateur night and people who never go out feel obligated to go out on this night and drink more than they can handle and i hate witnessing drive-by public vomiting, fights on the sidewalk, and drunk driving. but my night turned out a lot more fun than i thought it could be. anyway, soul night here is great because everyone dances – including all the deejays, and they are fun to watch. besides all the great 60s soul 45s, i also think the crowd gets hype and dances because the dj is hyped. and this is not any self-conscious half-ass dancing either, lots of people seriously just spazz out on the dancefloor and aren’t afraid to look foolish. i can dork out and reenact moves from the blues brothers movie if i want to and no one would even notice. not that i would ever do something like that.
they gave out x-ray specs and stupid hats and favors. the crowd crouches down to the floor slow when the song starts to get quiet when paul paul orders them to get on the floor. then everyone jumps up with their arms in the air when the song gets loud again. it is that kind of atmosphere, check it out. i took a mess of pics last night and put together a slideshow because i think i need to start doing that when i have too many pictures.
actually, i realized that i’m not so good at “real life” bowling.

but the biggest loser of the night has to be

Oh yeah, last Saturday was the 4th Annual Tamale Day that Serg organizes. This year it was hosted at EJ’s house. Wii Bowling, goth beer, tamales for days, and the Mayweather vs Hatton fight. Good times, good eats.

ayres, morse code and the homie mike 2600 deejayed the party at milk last friday. serg jumped up and down forever in the count crackula puppet head mask. i had a blast.

alexis had a pie party last thursday. i spilled peach lambic on her kitchen floor, probably because brian and young laughed every time i said “lambic” because it sounded like i said lamb dick and they are 14 year olds. was super bummed about the waste because it went well with pie. also there was scotch and people present, in addition to the pies. i wish i knew what good scotch was supposed to taste like because i’m told that there was plenty of it.

later when darkness fell, young drove us kids to the lathrop dell’osso farm (thanks, dad!) so we could do the corn maze at night. this maze is over 35 acres big and it changes every year. this year it was a tractor of pumpkins:

they give you a map, but it’s so easy to lose your place. we walked in circles a few times cause everything looked the same. sometimes the only way we could distinguish the new paths from the repeated paths was based seeing a familiar piece of trash on the ground or recognizing a hanging corn ear that young had gnawed on out of desperation (this was only about 20 minutes in). i’m pretty certain now that young is the guy who would be the first to eat people in a stranded situation.
anyway, one of the rewarding things about the maze is making it to one of the four elevated “bridges” which act as towers overlooking the maze and made it easier to plan your next path. the whole thing took about an hour to complete and it was fun.

during the day i went to the clarion alley block party to check out new murals this year and hopefully see some good bands. no luck on the latter but i only stayed for about 45 min. also, i remembered that i hadn’t been through clarion alley in a long time (not even on bike weirdly enough), so i really had no clue what was new. who cares, it was a beautiful day out.

damn, so sorry for all these pics. these aren’t even all of them, i uploaded almost 500 to my flickr account. as you may know i was in nyc the past 2 weeks. the first week hermilo and i subletted a studio apartment in the lower east side for a fake honeymoon, the second week i stayed in brooklyn with my friend uyen. saw just blaze, chris rock as a surprise guest in a small comedy club, bobbito @ apt, the natural history museum, ate at difara’s pizza (legendary), danced to danny krivit, ate at red hook, secret key lime joints, went to the DUMBO arts fest, fished in the atlantic. i had a blast.
