tryna make a $ outta 15 ¢

Sunday morning, went to Golden Gate Fields with Brian, Mike, Young and Katie. GGF gave away a 42-inch plasma TV before every race. I didn’t win one, but I got lucky and won $20 by betting that a 15 to 1 horse would place. That horse actually won, but i was scared to bet that way. Katie got superlucky and won $62 from a 10 cent superfecta.

here is a better picture that young took of the action

Later i checked out the superbowl and muted every single commercial break.

As per usual, Prince killed it live but i was kinda wishing he played more original material. i know the conservative ass NFL isn’t down with Erotic City and the like, but i would not be mad at I Would Die 4 U or I Wanna Be Your Lover. I could live without the Foo Fighters cover (that name still makes me cringe), but it was still pretty great and it seemed somewhat biblical that he got to perform Purple Rain in the rain.

dogs, treehouses, kids, cioppino

affectionate lion

African lion hugs and kisses woman who rescued it from circus

The king of the jungle showed his romantic side when he reached through the bars of his cage in Cali, Colombia, and clasped Ana Julia Torres in his giant paws to give her a kiss.

Ms Torres earned the affection of Jupiter, a 110kg (242lb) African lion, by nursing him back to health after rescuing him from a circus. He is one of about 800 maltreated residents at her Villa Lorena animal shelter in a poor suburb of the city.

is this for real?

my friends on elephant seals

ok maybe i am the only one who finds them intimidating…

null
Alexis:
“He looks like he’s singing karaoke and can’t hear if he’s on-key or not,
and maybe his friends are laughing at him”

null
Young:
“Hahaha, that picture is hilarious. It looks like all the penguins are
standing around laughing at the fatass who can’t get up.”

elephant seals are so scary

null

on the “coasts” episode of the Blue Planet series which i watched last night, there is this really intense fight between two enormous elephant seal bulls for domination. it is most fucked up and bloody. their eyes bulge. they groan loud and intimidatingly. they open their mouth so wide that they can probably swallow a toddler and they start biting each other by swinging their heads at each other like large meat hooks. it is truly terrifying.

they look like a jim henson creation gone wrong

sea lion biting 20 swimmers

so a sea lion kept biting a bunch of people in the marina.
20 swimmers to be exact.

“I get half way back to the dock, and I feel something,” he explained to CBS 5. “I don’t know what the hell it was. It felt slimy. So I just kept going. As I got to the end of the dock, the lady from next door said, ‘You better get out of there, because there’s a sea lion right after you.’ “

and this account:

“I was a quarter-mile out swimming along, felt a brush under my feet, and I think, ‘These feel like whiskers,’ ” said Celeste McMullin. “I realized it was an animal. So I stopped, and he popped up and looked at me.”

McMullin then tried to swim away, but the sea lion “followed me the whole time, bumping me and nipping” continuously until she made it back to shore. She ended up with six bites – two puncture wounds and four cuts – and was advised to go to the hospital to have the wounds cleaned.

Children aghast as pelican swallows pigeon whole (link)

i guess this is what they call a “schadenfreude.” just last week, a kid at the BART station screamed at a pigeon on the platform and it slapped me in the forehead with its wing as it flew away. that pretty much ended my pigeon penance for something i once did that i will never mention to anyone ever again. they just want to continue this lifelong war with me

Families strolling through a London park were left shocked when a pelican picked up and swallowed an unsuspecting pigeon.

The Eastern White pelican struggled with the desperately frantic pigeon in its beak for more than 20 minutes before swallowing it whole.

The moment was caught on camera by photographer Cathal McNaughton, who was taking pictures of the wildlife in St James’s Park.

The pigeon was still alive when it reached the pelican’s stomach, he said.

i also got to hang out with this bunny

her she is cleaning her face

other than that, i saw Science of Sleep this weekend and enjoyed it and i got a surpise package of awesome cat patches from Porous Walker, the man behind the mysterious Ronald McDonald letter.

weekend house guest

my roommate petsat this guinea pig over the weekend so he could use it for a scene in a film he’s making. he was really friendly, made funny and cute sounds and even purred when i pet him! he also ate like a pig. it was a trip to watch him eat for long periods with unwavering enthusiasm. i just sat in front of him for 15 min watching him gobble up everything around him.

his owners unfortunately named him Beavis.
i think from this picture above that it should be Harold.

These things eat so much. When i opened up the pet traveller cage,
he came up to the camera lens to see if it was food.

when he realized the camera wasn’t edible, he went to the back and just stared at me.

After staring at me motionless for a minute or two,
he went back to eating but while always keeping an eye on me,
as if i was going to steal his food.

“I’m not going to touch your food, Harold”

then it looked like he was smiling at the camera.
they have the cutest lil mouths with their buckteeth.
i wished he left his mouth open long enough for me to snap it.

YESSSSS!!!!!!

restraining orders against cats is so next level.

i like how the writer points out the cat has “cat-like stealth.” huh? that’s odd that a CAT would have CAT-like stealth. thanks for pointing that out, short pants.

Crazy Cat Terrorizes Connecticut Town

Wed Mar 29, 7:24 AM ET

Residents of the neighborhood of Sunset Circle say they have been terrorized by a crazy cat named Lewis. Lewis for his part has been uniquely cited, personally issued a restraining order by the town’s animal control officer.

“He looks like Felix the Cat and has six toes on each foot, each with a long claw,” Janet Kettman, a neighbor said Monday. “They are formidable weapons.”

The neighbors said those weapons, along with catlike stealth, have allowed Lewis to attack at least a half dozen people and ambush the Avon lady as she was getting out of her car.

Some of those who were bitten and scratched ended up seeking treatment at area hospitals.

Animal Control Officer Rachel Solveira placed a restraining order on him. It was the first time such an action was taken against a cat in Fairfield.

In effect, Lewis is under house arrest, forbidden to leave his home.

Solveira also arrested the cat’s owner, Ruth Cisero, charging her with failing to comply with the restraining order and reckless endangerment.

450 lb jellyfish invading Japan

Here are some more signs of the apocalypse. Aside from global warming producing more high level hurricanes because of warmer temperatures in the gulf, the other theory is that it is creating these giant 6-ft wide jellyfish monsters in Japan’s waters.

“How Do You Tackle an Invasion of Giant Jellyfish?” (article link)

In some places jellyfish density is reported to be a hundred times higher than normal. Worst of all, no one yet understands why. One theory is that global warming is heating up the seawater and encouraging jellyfish breeding.

crazy! they look really cool though.
